IABM Security and Vulnerability group

NABA (North American Broadcasters Association) and also EBU (unofficially) have asked IABM members to collaborate on security and vulnerability. Hence, we are starting a working group on these topics. Although NABA has a North American focus, they are working with other communities on a global basis to avoid having unique requirements which makes things difficult for suppliers.

Please watch the following video in which John Lee, Chair of NABA’s Cybersecurity Sub-Committee, describes the reasons for approaching IABM.

From the IABM member point of view, this collaboration will ultimately avoid costly surprises on RFP/RFQ’s by assuring the vendor and the end-user communities are synced up.

Here are the highlights of the MOU between IABM and NABA:

NABA and IABM wish to establish a collaborative relationship via a separate security group, entitled the NABA/IABM Supplier Security Council.

Activities

Under the purview of this proposed group:

  • NABA will present its existing recommendations and current security work plan to IABM.
  • IABM will present its security/cyber activities, including the work of any committee it has underway.
  • NABA and IABM will table specific security issues associated with their suppliers/service providers and members, with the goal of resolving those issues through technical and/or best practices solutions.
  • NABA and IABM will address and discuss supply chain, ownership, or other changes of IABM member companies that could affect the supply of their products or services to broadcasters.
  • NABA and IABM will address the work of external cyber testing facilities, including, for example, those of the Security4Media organization.
  • NABA and IABM will exchange information on upcoming security conferences, fora, etc. of potential interest to either organization.

Please fill out the form below to sign up for this IABM Security and Vulnerability group.

I don’t expect too many meetings; however we will generate a mail list in order to exchange ideas among the members. There will of course have to be group meeting before exchanging details with NABA. Additionally,  I will be asking NABA, group members and others to provide various presentations to be shared with the group.

Although I will chair the operations of the group, we do need a couple of member volunteers to take the lead with various activities. If you have this interest, please note this in the form comments.

Security and Vulnerability goes well beyond VPN’s and Zero Trust applications. Although there are various so-called best practices, the complaints I am seeing are mainly about lack of detail.

Being a member of a trade association that is dedicated to vendors, gives your company the ideal forum to exchange ideas and thoughts openly without having the presence of customers. This will also aid in having a consolidated approach to further review with end-users.

Sign up now as this is what IABM Impact is all about!
